Who’s Pulling My Strings?

Sam Mirzadeh

A lot of my work is inspired by both my Iranian heritage and the punk/hardcore scene here in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, when I think of Iran, I can’t help but visualize riot police and the horrific injustices and authoritarianism that Iranian people go through. That, along with the heavily anti-police themes of the punk/hardcore scene, anti-authoritarianism themes tends to be reoccurring in my work. My work tends to not be very “pretty” and have more of a harsh visual style that can portray the anger or frustration that I was feeling towards the topic at hand. But not all of my work has a meaning. If I’m being honest, sometimes I create something that just looks cool to me.
