A single set of letter type is just as physically limiting as a haiku; you can only say so much. And yet both of those limits are what wring the truth out of me. Through this project I was able to explore my own intentions and desires. Printing with type is unforgiving and time consuming so everything I chose to print was based of a single question: “if I wouldn’t write it in blood, why would I write it at all?” A consolation, a prayer, and a confession, all words that I felt needed to be stamped in red ink. As I’ve discovered more about speaking my truth and practicing it more often, I’ve noticed that the blood I write with isn’t as heavy and dark with exhaustion. It only gets lighter and lighter. And I’m very proud of that. Each haiku was printed by hand on a Kelsey 3x5 printing press, with red ink.
